Sylvia Liber is an award-winning Australian photographer renowned for her editorial, commercial, wedding, and portrait photography. She specializes in capturing compelling stories through a fine-art-meets-candid style, producing vibrant and dynamic imagery

Born in 1969, Sylvia graduated with an Associate Diploma in Fine Arts from West Wollongong TAFE in 1994. She began her career as a photojournalist in 1995 with The Lake Times and joined the Illawarra Mercury in 1998. Throughout her career, she has covered a wide range of assignments, from local news and sports to international stories, including a notable assignment in the Solomon Islands.

Sylvia's work has earned her multiple accolades, including four Walkley Awards and two PANPA Awards. In 2018, she won both the Nikon-Walkley Portrait Prize and the Nikon-Walkley Community/Regional Prize for her self-initiated projects, "Desire for Change" and "Deep Love for Dance," respectively. These projects reflect her commitment to exploring and documenting diverse human experiences.

In 2020, Sylvia won her fifth Walkley Award, further cementing her status as a leading figure in Australian photography. She currently operates as a freelance photographer based in Yeppoon, Queensland, specializing in portraits, corporate events, and editorial work. ​

Beyond her professional pursuits, Sylvia is passionate about pushing the boundaries of photography, particularly in underwater portraiture. She views photography as a reflection of her personality—passionate and fun—and strives to convey this through the stories she captures.
